Played slightly later in the calendar year than usual due to the later Captain's changeover, the Club team and the Seniors locked horns for the Masterman Plate.

Two teams of ten assembled to do battle as the Club team led by Dan Broom looked to retain the Trophy they had secured in 2023.

Unfortunately they had not accounted for Tim Amy's Seniors troops to be in top form and the Seniors ran out winners by 4.5 games to 1.5. As usual the game was played in good spirits and fun was had by all involved with the course in superb condition and the weather to match.

The Pro Shop Stableford that ran alongside the Masterman Plate on Sunday was won by Tony Higgins. He scored 39pts which gave him a one point cushion over runner up Martin Kennelly. Kennelly enjoyed his second top three finish of the weekend with 38 this time winning a countback on the back nine over Mats Mattsson for 2nd position.

The Seniors April Stableford was completed on a cool but dry Thursday morning. The winner was Martyn Brown who was the only entrant to reach the 40 point mark and with it he claimed the Millennium Trophy which is awarded to the best score in this event annually. A countback was required to decide the runner up on the day with both Brian Read and Tony Oliver posting scores of 38. On the back nine it was Oliver who edged ahead leaving Read in third.

The Brean Seniors have got their inter club matches underway for the 2024 season under Captain Tim Amy's leadership. Last week they travelled to Shirehampton Park in Bristol and came away with a respectable 3-3 draw before opening their home campaign this week. Minehead Warreners were the visitors and they were dispatched back to West Somerset on the end of a 4-1 defeat.

In between those two games the first round of the Seniors Somerset Bowl was contested. They were drawn away to 2023 winners and defending Champions Isle of Wedmore and narrowly lost out. The result was 3-2 in favour of the home team with the final point being secured on the final hole of the final match on course and ended Brean's hopes of repeating their 2021 success in the event.

Round two of the 2024 Somerset Bowl awaits for the Brean team following a victory on Saturday. They took full advantage of a home draw to defeat Long Sutton 5-0 to progress into the next round where another home tie awaits against Isle of Wedmore.
