MEMBERS of the Burnham and Highbridge community will get the final say on new artwork set to be installed across half a mile of Burnham's sea wall.
The stretch of sea wall between the planned new play area at South Esplanade and the Burnham-on-Sea pavilion will be transformed by Sedgemoor's creative people and places project Seed in partnership with Burnham & Highbridge Town Council.
Artists were invited to submit an initial proposal to a selection panel comprising members of Burnham-on-Sea & Highbridge Town Council, Seed, and community representatives.
Two outstanding proposals have been shortlisted and will soon go on display for members of the public to choose the one they prefer.
Seed Director Scott O’Hara said: "The brief for the artwork was to create a durable piece that responded to the local natural environment and celebrates the ecology of this part of Bridgwater Bay.
"Two proposals best reflecting this theme with a high-quality artistic response were shortlisted, and we are excited to give the people of Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge an opportunity to vote for their favourite."
Artist Jacqueline Seifert, of Orakel Workshop, has proposed creating a series of ten unique tiled artworks, each exploring the special characteristics of the natural landscape.
The second proposal from artist Svetlana Kondakova explores a similar design concept through three mosaic murals portraying views of Bridgwater Bay mudflats and the wildlife they support above and below the surface.
It is up to members of the local community to decide which artwork they would like to see installed on the sea wall.
Both proposals will be on display at The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre from tomorrow (Tuesday, February 15).
There will also be voting boxes at the theatre.
Alternatively, people can cast their vote on Seed's website.
The deadline to vote is Sunday, March 13.
