BURNHAM-ON-SEA will crown its very own Coronation Queen during the town's celebration of the Platinum Jubilee.
The Burnham Retail Group has organised a 'Cake & Coronation' celebration to mark the Queen's 70-year reign, which will take place on Thursday, June 2 - the first day of a bumper bank holiday weekend.
The retail group is a collection of the town's small businesses that have joined forces to provide residents and tourists with the best shopping experience possible.
Alongside the crowning of the town's Coronation Queen, the celebration will also involve a Jubilee parade, circus acts, a Punch and Judy show, magicians, live music, and arts and craft stalls.
People in Burnham are encouraged to nominate someone aged 70 or over they believe is worthy of becoming the town's Coronation Queen by sending an application form to the retail group by Friday, May 27.
The Coronation Queen will be crowed at the start of the day's celebrations at 10am.
They will lead the Jubilee parade along the seafront and through the high street at 4pm alongside local dignitaries, service people, and children.
At the end of the day, they will present prizes to the winners of the best crown and best bunting cimpetitions at the event's closing ceremony.
A Burnham Retail Group spokesperson said: “To a backdrop of awesome circus acts, Cirque de Silk gymnasts, stilt walkers, living statues, jugglers, Punch and Judy, magicians, and live music, our visitors will be invited to wander the craft and display areas, making crowns and bunting, amongst much more.”
Visitors can also “take it easy watching the entertainment and soaking up the atmosphere whilst sat at tables in the street drinking tea and eating free cake”.
The spokesperson added: “At lunchtime 12 children from each of the five infant junior local schools will sit at Top Tables throughout the town and lunch with us.
“What a day this will be. We look forward to you joining us in making very special memories on this very, very special holiday!”
You can find the nomination form for the town's Coronation Queen on the Burnham Retail Group's Facebook page.
Nominations should be emailed to burnhamretailgroup@gmail.com by the closing date of Friday, May 27.
