AROUND 150 tickets have been sold for an upcoming concert in Burnham-on-Sea that will raise vital funds to help people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.

Local folk singer-songwriter Timothy Dean will present his Songs of Somerset show at the Princess Theatre on Wednesday, September 21.

All costs have now been met, meaning money from the sales of the remaining 50 tickets will be donated to the Somerset Crisis Fund.

The fund enables village agents in Sedgemoor to support people who are struggling to cover basic costs such as heating or buying food.

Timothy has spent years researching Somerset's history and legends to write his songs and stories, creating a show with tales of pirates, murder, smugglers, and rebellion.

Songs of Somerset was well-received when it was premiered to a sell-out audience in Brent Knoll, where Timothy works as the village postman.

His job meant he was able to deliver the prize of two free tickets to Rita Hopkins, one of the two winners of a Weekly News competition and a Brent Knoll resident.

David Sturgess, organiser of the Songs of Somerset concert, said: “We set out to stage this event at The Princess Theatre as a means of bringing this superb program of brilliantly researched, written, and performed work to the people of Somerset.

“The sudden advent of a cost-of-living horror for people in our community was an obvious prompt for us to use this event as an opportunity to help those neighbours through the work of the Somerset Crisis Fund.”
