HUMPHREYS. John Ashton, on 13th December 2012, peacefully at home, aged 85 years. Former schoolmaster of St Audries School and before then, Deputy Head, The King Alfred's School, Highbridge. Former District Officer in the Colonial Service in Nigeria. Served during WWII in Austria, Italy, Egypt, Palestine and Yugoslavia with the Royal Armoured Corps, the Queen's Bays and in tanks with the 17th/21st Lancers. Former Watchet boat owner, Bristol Channel sailor and lifelong lover of English literature, languages, seamanship and his family. Williton resident since 1980. Sadly missed by his loving wife Ruth after celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary this year, his son Robert, daughter-in-law Jane, and by grandsons Henry, William, George and Edward Humphreys. The funeral service is taking place on 20th December 2012 at St Peter's Church, Williton.
