COASTGUARDS at Burnham rushed to Brean beach on Sunday (February 4) to reports that a group of fishermen were in trouble on the mud flats.
A group of six coastguards conducted a search of the shoreline after the owner of a nearby caravan site dialled 999 to report four anglers in difficulty at 12.50pm.
Burnham Coastguard Station Officer Steve Bird said: "We made various inquiries and quickly found that the four anglers had fortunately managed to get back to the safety of the beach on their own.
"This was a false alarm with good intent, but it does serve as another reminder of the dangers of walking across the mud here at low tide."
