A PETITION has been handed to Burnham and Highbridge Town Council protesting over the "unsafe" condition of a former place of worship.
Highbridge's Old Gospel Centre Chapel on Newtown Road is at the centre of a 72-signature strong document complaining about how the building has been allowed to fall into disrepair.
The document was given to Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Eric Gill by Cllr David Poole on Monday (February 5), who outlined the concerns of the those who had put their name on the paper.
"I have to bring a petition to you and it's from the residents of Newtown Road and the surrounding area," Cllr Poole said.
"We petition the council in regards to the old chapel in Highbridge. This building is derelict and unsafe.
"Needles have been seen and vagrants have been using it at night. The overall condition is a disaster waiting to happen and we demand action be done now."
The petition was accepted by Mayor Eric Gill on behalf of the town council.
