A FASCINATING glimpse at Burnham's twin town Louvigne du Desert can be shared today - thanks to two Weekly News readers.
Rob and Christine Mason have lived in the resort for 20 years and decided to stop off at the French town during a recent holiday in the country.
The twinning came about in 1997 after Cllr Mike Mansfield travelled through the town and set the wheels in motion for the current European marriage.
Rob said he had been particularly struck about the good condition the residents of Louvigne du Desert kept their town.
"The pictures say it all. It looked a lot tidier than Burnham," he said.
"I imagine it is roughly the same size as Burnham and we visited late afternoon and I think we saw the early commuters going home.
"I think if we were in the area again we would go and have another look at it."
Wife Christine explained how the unplanned visit had come about during their French trip.
"It was my idea to go to the town and have a look at it as we were visiting friends not far from there," she said.
"We often pass there and think 'That's out twin town'. I was quite impressed by it. It struck me as being a very tidy and pleasant town and by the pictures people can see it was quite nicely decorated.
"I would like to spend a bit more time there, it looked very well cared for. However I didn't come across the sign saying it was twinned with Burnham. Perhaps we can locate it when we next visit."
