THE Burnham conservation area has been recognised as an area of special architectural and historic interest.
Now residents in the town are being asked to put forward their views about what makes the town special and how its interest can be safeguarded.
Sedgemoor District Council is keen to establish which buildings and spaces should be preserved or enhanced for the enjoyment of future generations.
A presentation and public meeting is being held to discuss at the Princess Hall at 7pm on Monday (February 19) where an "appraisal and management plan" for the Conservation Area will be discussed.
The plan, which attempts to evaluate and record the special architectural and historic interest of the town, is currently available for public consultation.
It is accompanied by a management plan, which will provide the basis for making sustainable decisions about the future of the area.
And the management plan will incorporate a design guide, which will seek to guide the siting and design of development and the determination of planning applications.
The documents can be seen at Burnham Library and at the Community Centre on Berrow Road. A copy has also been deposited with Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.
The document can be found on the internet via www.sedgemoor.gov.uk where there is an online comments form. Sedgemoor District Council would be grateful to receive any comments on the document before noon on Wednesday, March 7.
