The best guess of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is that average global temperatures will rise by between 1.8C and 4C by 2100, enough to make huge swathes of the planet uninhabitable, and put London under water - and what of Burnham? The worst-case scenario of 6.4C could cause the mass extinction of virtually all human life.
Not in our time, perhaps. But close enough to affect my children and grandchildren - and those of the shortsighted councillors of Burnham and Highbridge!
