EACH town and parish council across Sedgemoor submits an annual precept to the district council - in effect, a bill to the taxpayer for providing its services within the community.

The exact roles played by these small authorities will vary from community to community, but can include things like cemetery control, village hall upkeep and playground maintenance.

Many parishes in the Sedgemoor area have frozen their precepts for 2007-8 at the levels charged in 2006-7. A small minority have even reduced their demands.

In this area, the biggest rise was in Brent Knoll (up 60%) - but how much did your town or parish council demand this year?
