FEARS over the future over Burnham Pool were heightened today (Wednesday) when swimmers discovered the facility had been closed.
But Sedgemoor District Council confirmed the building would only remain shut for a day because of problems with the automatic water treatment system.
Spokesman Claire Faun said: "This means that the chemical balance within the pool is incorrect and because of stringent safety procedures, the public are not being allowed to swim.
"The water treatment system is currently being operated manually. The chemical balance in the water needs time to equalise and it is hoped that the pool will be reopened tomorrow (Thursday).
"However, customers are asked to please ring Burnham Pool on 01278 785909 to check opening times over the next couple of days.
"Sedgemoor District Council apologies to its customers at Burnham Pool and its regular users have been advised of this temporary closure."
