THE future of a Burnham former landfill site has taken a step forward with the submission of a planning application to turn it into a £240,000 public space.
Sedgemoor District Council revealed on Thursday (March 1) that the idea for the land off Worston Lane would deliver a high quality open space that included tree and shrub planting, seating, dog waste and litter bins.
Other elements to the landscaping would be surfaced paths or cycleway and associated jogging track, creation of a children's play area and ball court to help meet the needs of residents in the Rosewood Farm area.
Council spokesman Claire Faun said: "Local ward councillors - Cllr Bob Filmer and Cllr Arthur Thorogood - are particularly keen to support the landscaping of the former landfill site and have been instrumental in its development.
"The preparation of a site-specific remediation plan has also been undertaken to allow landscaping works to proceed in an appropriate manner.
"Once planning permission has been granted the council will need to consider the funding of the remediation before landscape works can commence."
