BURNHAM Roman Catholic Church held a special mass last week to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
The mass coincided with the memorial feast day of the English Martyrs, and was followed by a cheese and wine evening.
Then on Sunday, Bishop of Clifton, Bishop Declan Lang, former parish priest Canon Timothy Barry, and present parish priest Father Tibor Szende attended the mass in Burnham.
All parish members were also invited to a buffet lunch, which took place in the presbytery gardens.
The existence of the Roman Catholic Church in Burnham owes a gratitude to the Highbridge mission of 1871 - 1890, and the La Retraite sisters who opened the chapel of the sacred heart in the town in 1890.
Due to increasing numbers of parishioners, The Church of our lady, and The English Martyrs was completed in 1967 - 40 years ago.
Organisers of the event would like to thank the building contractors, WJ Pople and Sons, and all those who were instrumental in the building of the beautiful church.
