MORE than £4,000 has been raised for a Burnham-on-Sea hospital charity, after 130 people took part in a sponsored beach walk last Saturday.
The walkers set off - at staggered times to prevent large gatherings - towards one of three destinations: Burnham lighthouse, Berrow beach or Brean Down.
They then returned Burnham's Ritz Social Club, for refreshments and certificates of achievement, with all funds raised going to the Friends of Burnham-on-Sea War Memorial Hospital.
The Friends is a charitable foundation which strives to improve the lives of everyone who needs help within the community.
Event organiser Mike Barsby told that Weekly News that it had been an "amazing response", and they were on target to raise £5,000.
He said that groups from the local Women's Institute, St Andrew's Church and the Alley Cats skittles team had taken part, with some people coming in fancy dress.
"The contribution from all the lovely people who took part will make a real difference to the everyday lives of the staff and patients [at the War Memorial Hospital], and enable them to get the little extras that give them a happier day," he added.
For anyone who still wishes to donate, the event's fundraising page can be found here, and keep scrolling for more photos from the day.
