AN organisation dedicated to providing friendship and shared interests for retired and semi-retired people is looking forward to holding a beach clean event in Burnham-on-Sea next week.
U3A (University of the Third Age) has branches all over the UK and overseas, including a flourishing one in Burnham.
The organisation provides a wide variety of groups, allowing people to learn languages, play board games and table tennis, and enjoy arts and crafts, music, and much more besides.
The full list of groups can be found here, and most of the U3A meetings are held at the Community Centre in Berrow Road.
In normal (non-pandemic) times, group members would have coffee mornings, socials, day trips and holidays, but - quite understandably - events have been few and far between in the last year.
This coming Wednesday (June 2), however, the whole of the U3A is having a ‘National Day’.
In Burnham that means a beach clean in the morning, starting at Maddocks Slade (off Berrow Road) at 10am, to fit with the tides.
Picking sticks, gloves and bags are being provided by the council, and both members and visitors are welcome to join.
