SOMERSET could face thuderstorms and FLOODING today, the Met Office has warned.
After enduring a heatwave this week, with temperatures hitting 30C, a weather warning has been issued covering the county, warning of severe thunderstorms.
The Met Office guidance said: "Heavy rain and thunderstorms may lead to some disruption and flooding."
The warning, in place until 10pm today (Saturday, July 24), says people can expect:
- Spray and sudden flooding that could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes or hail
- Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
- Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
Forecast
The Met Offive said thunderstorms would move north on Saturday morning.
A forecaster said: "A cloudy start as heavy thundery rain continues to move northwards through the morning.
"Sunny spells will follow before locally torrential thunderstorms soon develop carrying the risk of hail.

"Feeling cooler than recently, but still warm in the sunshine."
Temperatures could reach around 25C, they said.
However, the bad weather could ease tonight, with temperatures dropping to around 13C.
"Showers, heavy and possibly thundery, will gradually ease for most by late evening to leave a largely dry but often cloudy night with some clear spells," the forecaster added.
