DEDICATED and proactive young people are encouraged to attend a workshop next month to help develop a new Burnham and Highbridge youth council.
The town council is inviting 15- to 19-year-olds from the Burnham and Highbridge area to attend the workshop, which will be held on Saturday, February 12 from 10am until 12pm.
The workshop will be held at the town council's offices in Jaycroft Road, Burnham.
The youth council is a new venture aimed at encouraging young people to represent their peers, discuss issues they are facing in the area, and find solutions to make things better.
The town council says the event will not be about party politics, and it will not appeal only to young people who are interested in politics.
At the workshop, attendees will discuss how they would like a youth council to operate and explore ideas for action.
They will learn how they can get involved in shaping decisions to benefit the area and have opportunities to ask questions.
The workshop will be hosted by town clerk Sam Winter and councillor Dawn Carey.
Cllr Carey said: "I’m really excited to have been given the go-ahead by the council to launch this exciting project to develop a youth council.
"The town council wants to hear the voices of our young people, and I very much look forward to helping achieve that."
Young people must book to attend the workshop, and parents or carers must fill out a consent form for their child to participate in the workshop.
