EARTHLIGHT, a community school and medicinal herb garden in Tarnock, Axbridge, has launched a crowdfunding appeal to create an outdoor education centre.
The crowdfunding appeal was launched exactly one year after Earthlight opened it’s gates on a 1-acre site owned by the YMCA Dulverton Group at Yew Tree Farm on the A38 Bristol Road. The farm is now entering its second growing season.
Tiffany Landamore, Earthlight’s founding director, said: “One aim for the centre will be to enable local children, young people, students and adults alike to volunteer, learn how to forage for medicinal herbs, grow and cultivate them successfully, and make their own herbal remedies in a safe and supportive environment.”
Tiffany, whose relatives have farmed in Somerset for generations, is a sustainable horticulturist who has led community growing initiatives since 2014.
She is also a qualified schoolteacher with over 15 years of experience, during which time she discovered the profound effects that working with plants and connecting with nature has on children’s wellbeing, learning and concentration.
“The obvious connections with nature our outdoor learning classrooms generate will also reflect the increasing public interest in developing one’s own health sovereignty – that is, our ability to individually choose natural foods and medicines that are chemical-free,” she said.

In addition to donating to the Earthlight Crowdfunding appeal – which hopes to receive enough donations to buy container classrooms and a compost toilet – supporters can also choose to volunteer, become members of the cooperative, or attend the special Spring Cleanse Retreat at the farm on Sunday, March 20 For further information, visit https://www.earthlight.uk
