LIFEBOAT volunteers rescued a kite surfer after they got into difficulties off the coast of Brean yesterday (Sunday, April 24).
The dramatic operation unfolded after a beach warden noticed the kite surfer struggling.
Milford Haven Coastguard control tasked Burnham-on-Sea RNLI volunteers to attend the incident.
Atlantic 85 lifeboat Doris Day and Brian was quickly launched just before 12.30pm and the crew set off at a good speed to the casualty area.
When they arrived on scene, it was discovered a friend of the casualty had entered the water with his inflatable kayak to assist the casualty’s buoyancy.
But, with all the kite equipment on board and being hampered by a northerly breeze, they were unable to move.
Helmsman Stuart Lacey said: "We were tasked to a kite surfer in difficulty, and we arrived to find both well but tired.
"We de-inflated the kite and took both persons on board, including the kayak and kite equipment,.
"We then transported them to shore into the hands of our local Burnham-on-Sea coastguard team."
Any water user can fall into difficulty at any time, especially with the fast moving tides however well prepared they may be.
