BURTLE celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with three different.
The first event started with a ‘High Tea’ in the Burtle Village Hall on Friday, June 3. Music and songs were provided by a fabulous quartet ‘Rough around the Edges’ setting a lovely atmosphere for the tea.
Social chatter was high as people mingled and talked whilst eating a mass of sandwiches and savouries, cream and jam scones, and superb home-made cakes.
All the food had been made by residents and the spread was a sight to behold.
Coffees and teas were served and there was an impressive display of past memorabilia.
It was a wonderful start to the celebrations and a great way to mark the Queen’s long and dutiful reign.
The second event was a ‘Royal Command Performance’ on the evening of Saturday, June 4.
This was a fun-packed evening, split into two halves.
The first half consisted of various acts performed by villagers displaying ‘home grown talent’ – all of which were a sight to behold.
After the interval, a wonderful rock band ‘The Platinum Stranglers’ performed for the second half with a medley of chart hits from the decades. The packed audience sang along and danced the night away with the bar open all evening.
The final event was the Burtle Street Party held at lunchtime and early afternoon on Sunday, June 5.
Tables and chairs lined the main road through Burtle which had been officially closed for this event. Villagers brought their own food and drink with a ‘bring and share’ theme.
An impressive array of table decorations and red/white and blue clothing was seen.
There was a children’s Fancy Dress competition which was won by Evie Knibb – aged 9 – and runner up Rupert Puddy – aged 3.
It was lovely to see so many villagers attend this event and for newcomers to be able to meet other people. Unfortunately, the rain brought close of play mid-afternoon.
All three different events were well attended and enjoyed enormously demonstrating a wonderful community spirit and friendship.
It was a fitting way for the small village of Burtle to come together and to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The organising committee would sincerely like to thank everyone who helped set up, prepare for and deliver, and clear up for each of these events – too numerous to mention here but you know who you are.
They would also like to thank everyone for turning up and supporting these events.
