A RESIDENTIAL care home in Burnham-on-Sea celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee with quizzes, bingo, and a garden party with live entertainment.
Residents at The Towans, a community-centred residence located on Berrow Road, were joined by the Royal British Legion and members of the local cadets.
Activities coordinator Joanne Boobyer said: “At The Towans, we like to celebrate, and what better reason to celebrate than our Queens Platinum Jubilee?”.
The celebrations began on Friday featuring entertainment, a visit from ‘the Queen’, and high tea.
“The celebration continued on Saturday where we asked local sea, air, and army cadets to join us and help to Plant a Tree for the Jubilee and a Rose Garden,” said Joanne.
“The British Legion were also asked to join us and unveil a bench that we had made in memory of one of our dedicated carers, Vicky.
“Vicky sadly lost her battle with cancer on April 26, and she and her late husband were involved in the British Legion.
“We have been fundraising through a JustGiving Page for Weston Hospicecare, which cared for Vicky wonderfully at the end of her life.
“Family and friends were invited to share this special afternoon with us, and it was lovely.
“We ended the day with a cream tea and a toast to Her Majesty the Queen.”
The Towans' residents rounded off their celebrations on Sunday by watching the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Pageant Parade and keeping their eyes peeled for one of their carers, Kelly Rowe, who was selected to dance in the Mall with Griffens Carnival Club.
