A MAN from Burnham-on-Sea has been fined £220 after avoiding payment of a £7.70 train fare.
Court documents say Hayden David Buttery, of Manor Road, travelled on a First Great Western service in Weston-super-Mare “without having previously paid your fare of £7.70 and with intent to avoid payment thereof”.
Buttery, 25, committed the offence on November 28, 2021.
He was proved guilty in his absence at North Somerset Magistrates' Court on Friday, June 17.
He was fined £220 and must pay £7.70 in compensation, £180 in costs, and a £34 victim surcharge.
Buttery must pay his £441.70 balance by Friday, July 8.

A Bridgwater man has also been fined for travelling on the railway without paying a fare.
Brett Lee Lake, of Wyndham Road, was caught on a First Great Western service in Taunton on December 7, 2021 without having paid a £7.90 fare.
Lake, 26, was proved guilty in his absence by a magistrate in North Somerset on Friday.
He was ordered to pay a £440 fine, £7.90 in compensation to the train company, £180 in court costs, and a £44 victim surcharge.
He has until July 8 to pay his £671.90 court bill.
