VOLUNTEERS manning Brent Knoll’s Community Shop will be tested by the pupils of the village’s primary school.
On Wednesday, July 20, pupils of Brent Knoll’s Primary School will be visiting the shop with £1 to spend, as part of a plan to teach them about money management.
Meanwhile, Brent Knoll Community Shop has secured a further £7,500 grant funding.
An initial grant of £7,500 was used to buy items including a new EPOS till system, a frost-free freezer, an air-conditioning unit, and a coffee machine.
The second grant was made possible by the shop’s achievement in increasing sales.
A member of the Community Shop’s management committee – and father of one of those children – Jonathan Rees said: “I’m an accountant, so I know about the management of money: but this is a crucial lesson that children need to learn.
“I’m thrilled that our village school is partnering with our community shop to provide a practical lesson in money management”, he added.
The community shop’s head of stocking, Lucy White, said: “We’ll make sure that we’re well-stocked with low-priced items, including fruit.”
According to David Sturgess, secretary of Brent Knoll Community Shop: “These are exciting developments, ahead of our second annual members’ meeting for more than 140 shareholders.”
That meeting will be held at the Brent Knoll Parish Hall on Wednesday, July 27 at 7pm.
