A CHARITY event held at Mark Village Hall has raised over £200 for a charity that helps people access healthcare and education in The Gambia.
The charity fun day was held on Saturday, July 23 and raised £210 for Winged Dreams, a charity that supports vulnerable people living in the West African country.
The event was organised by Antonia Robinson-Cole and Ashleigh Dewbery-Lugg, who run a one-stop event shop called Parties For You around their jobs.
The pair have previously collected used football boots for Winged Dreams.
Saturday's fun day featured face painting, arts and crafts, glitter tattoos, and stalls showcasing products from local businesses.
It took place between 11am and 1pm on Saturday and cost £3 for children and £1 for adults to attend.
An event spokesperson said: “Thank you to everyone who came to support us at Mark Village Hall. We have raised £210 (plus some Gift Aid yet to be counted).
“It is an amazing result and, on behalf of our Gambian families, thank you to Ashleigh Dewbery-Lugg, Antonia Robinson-Cole and the team for organising it all.”
The £210 could provide eight 50kg sacks of rice, which can feed a family for three months.
It could also be used to help around 40 children receive a doctor's appointment if they are ill, or cover a child's food and school fees for an entire year.
Winged Dreams was created after its founder Carol Pearce visited the country on a bird-watching holiday in 1998 and saw families living in poverty.
After initial fundraising efforts to support families and more visits, Winged Dreams became a registered charity in 2013.
