A GARDEN party held to raise funds to repair the roof of Burnham-on-Sea Community Centre has raised more than £1,200.
The party was held on Saturday, August 6 at White Lodge, Rectory Road.
The event was organised by the Friends of the Community Centre group, which launched a fundraising appeal to pay for repairs at the Berrow Road building in April.
Guests enjoyed a 1950s theme to commemorate the Queen's Jubilee year, cream teas, a raffle, home-made cakes, and a variety of stalls.
Tickets for the event cost £5 and could be purchased in advance or on the day.
Mary O'Rourke said: “It was a fantastic afternoon in glorious sunshine. All proceeds are going to the roof fund.
“The community centre is over 200 years old and the roof is very susceptible to storm damage. Storm Eunice created more problems earlier this year.
“Thanks to tireless fundraising and successful grant applications, we hope to start on phase one of roof repairs very soon, but funraising for phase two will continue.
“As well as the garden party, we have events planned for the autumn and run coffee mornings on the first Saturday of every month at the community centre, where we provide a friendly welcome as well as great refreshments.
“Details of upcoming events are always displayed on the boards at the Community Centre. We are very grateful for the support we receive.”
The project to repair the centre's roof is expected to cost around £80,000, with around £10,000 sought from the public.
