POLICE community support officers (PCSOs) will host a free bike-marking event in Burnham's Apex Park to help deter thieves.
The event will be held tomorrow (Friday, August 19) between 12pm and 2pm in the park, located on Marine Drive.
Attendees will have their bicycles added to the police-approved BikeRegister database.
Visible markings will then be added to their bikes.
This makes it easier for the police to reunite people with their bikes if they are stolen, but it does not make their bikes a harder target for thieves.
People who register to the database receive a logbook, which can be used as proof of ownership, and an account that can be managed online.
A Sedgemoor and Hinkley Point Neighbourhood Policing spokesperson said: “Sedgemoor PCSOs will be carrying out a free bike-marking event on the 19th August 2022 at Apex Park, Marine Drive, Burnham-on-Sea.
“The event will run between 12pm and 2PM. Why not pop along and get your bikes marked for free?”
The Avon and Somerset Police website added: “Getting your bike security marked and registered is a visible deterrent to bike thieves.
“They know that if they are caught in possession of a registered bike, the rightful owner can be traced and they will be arrested.”

Cyclists are also advised to purchase Sold Secure Gold Bike Locks and use at least two different types of lock, including at least one high-quality D-lock.
