A BURNHAM care home is due to close in November after a review of the building found it “will not be fit for purpose for our residents” in the future.
Priory Court Care Home, located in Oxford Street, has confirmed it will close on November 2, 2022.
Care provider Country Court is working with Somerset County Council and the NHS to find alternative accommodation for its residents.
This follows the closure of Hillview Nursing Home, Berrow Road, after the Care Quality Commission (CQC) took “enforcement action” against it.
A Priory Court spokesperson said: “Country Court believes in providing exceptional levels of personalised care at all times in an environment that is of a high standard for maintaining our residents’ wellbeing.
“For a number of months, Country Court has undertaken comprehensive reviews of our refurbishment and redevelopment options at Priory Court Care Home in Burnham-on-Sea.
“It has become apparent that the building will not be fit for purpose for our residents for the foreseeable future.
“In light of this, we have taken the decision to close Priory Court Care Home.
“We have not taken this decision lightly and have spent many months considering all viable options to keep the care home open. However, due to the age and nature of the building, this is not possible.
“We will be working closely with Somerset County Council and NHS Devon CCG to find suitable alternative accommodation for people.”
Priory Court Care Home was rated ‘good’ in its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, carried out on March 1, 2022.
Priory Court can provide care for up to 71 people, including those with dementia and physical disabilities.
When it was inspected by the CQC, there were 20 people using the service.
The announcement comes shortly after another Burnham-on-Sea care home closed.
Residents of the Hillview Nursing Home have been resettled after it notified the CQC of “issues of potential concern”.
The CQC is investigating the issues raised with the cooperation of Hillview, which is part of the Churchlake Care Partnership.
Its leadership team was suspended and an internal review is being carried out.
