PLANS have been submitted to convert a former health and wellbeing shop into a takeaway in Eastover, Bridgwater.
The unit at 75 Eastover is located between Timebomb Tattoo and Bridgwater Methodist Church, near the Mercure hotel and Cobblestones pub.
It was most recently occupied by CBD Journey, which sold oils, vapes, edibles, bath bombs, lotions, and creams that contain cannabidiol.
Since 2009, it has also housed Paparazzi Pizza & Kebab, The Best From Europe (continental food), and Silver Link Food (groceries and convenience).
A planning application to convert it into a takeaway was registered by Sedgemoor District Council on August 9, 2022.
The planning statement said: “The proposal seeks the change of use of an existing building, with no material changes to the building proposed.
“The building in question has had a number of short-term retail uses in recent times.
“The owner of the building is looking to expand upon the potential end uses to hopefully attract a longer-term tenant to what is quite a prominently located building.”
If successful, the application form says the takeaway would be operated by two full-time employees.
Bridgwater Town Council has objected to the application on the grounds of “traffic management”.
The planning application said the proposal “will not see a significant increase in traffic movements to and from the site”.
