LIFEBOAT crew from Burnham-on-Sea came to the town's Christmas lights switch-on at the end of November to raise money to continue their vital work.

Crew members mingled with Burnham residents and visitors to collect money after obtaining a street collection licence.

Crowd members were able to get a close-up look at the station's Softrak launching tractor, also used as a crowd safety measure on the night, and a D Class lifeboat.

Lifeboat operations manager Matt Davies said: “This was a great chance for the crew to interact with the community.

“The station's D Class lifeboat and Softrak launch vehicle were also on show for the public to view.

”We collected a fantastic amount of £360.75 thanks to everyone’s generous donations. 

”This was a really pleasing amount due to the poor weather in the afternoon but, luckily, the rain passed us by for the Christmas lights switch-on.

“Burnham Lifeboat Station would like to take the opportunity to wish all readers a very merry Christmas and best wishes for 2023!”

The Christmas lights were illuminated on Saturday, November 26 during a Winter Warmer day organised by Burnham Retail and the Chamber of Trade & Commerce.

The switch-on came after eight hours of festive entertainment in the town, ranging from live music and magic to a fire show.
