FIVE timber guest lodges could be brought to a village near Burnham-on-Sea if plans for a new glamping site are approved by the district council.

A planning application has been submitted to build the lodges at Redwood Farm, which is located just off Withy Road in East Huntspill.

The proposed glamping site would occupy around 3,810 square metres of land, which would mainly be left as green space.

The application says the site will provide contemporary, luxury accommodation to visitors within a discreet countryside setting.

It says: “The five glamping units will be well spaced across the site to give each visitor a good amount of privacy, for social distancing and to control the carry of sound.

“The site will be easily accessible throughout the country, thus being suitable for weekend trips and short breaks.

“The application site is well located to allow occupiers to enjoy the surrounding tourism assets.

“The concept of luxury glamping is now gaining popularity throughout the UK, with standards and guests’ expectations on the rise.

“It is intended by the site operator that this site will be one of the best available in the area.

“At the moment, there are a number of caravan and campsites in the surrounding area demonstrating that there is a high demand for holiday accommodation.

“The units would be rented out on a per-nightly basis. Patrons would likely be couples, families, or friends. Party groups will not be permitted by the operator.”

If permission is granted, the application says the operator would provide at least one full-time job and one part-time job, and increase footfall for local businesses.

The application includes associated parking/turning facilities, a refuse and recycling unit, a bicycle store and a timber service hut.

The proposed parking and turning area will accommodate up to seven cars and contain an electric charging point. Cycling will be encouraged as a way for guests to explore the area and nearby facilities, including shops and pubs.

The plans (reference number 25/22/00044) were registered on Sedgemoor District Council's planning portal on February 6. Comments are welcomed until March 3.
