AN organisation called Balls to Cancer is fundraising by attempting to save its free holidays caravans by fundraising for an amount of £20,000.
A spokesperson said: "We have two luxury holiday homes based at the Haven holiday park in Burnham-on-Sea and if we don't raise this urgently, we may have to close.
"We are an extremely small cancer charity set up 12 years ago in memory of our co founders, Susan’s grandfather and Mark’s father, as we initially wanted to raise awareness on male cancers, something that is still very much taboo when you need to mention balls or penis in the mainstream.
"We then decided to offer any support needed due to someone having cancer, dealing with the treatment and stress that comes with it. We quickly found out that the support we thought was there for women and children wasn’t, just a much bigger awareness of them.
"This grew to us offering breaks at Burnham on Sea to help make memories as a family, whether this be the first time on holiday (which for many of our families is the only time they’ve seen the seaside) or sadly, the last. Again something that is all too true for our guests.
"The cost of living crisis has been brutal to us, harder than even covid. We have seen fundraising dwindling away and we honestly don’t know what to do.
"Our funds are from the kindness of our supporters only and we know how tough they must be finding life at the minute but without it, we can’t continue.
"That’s a heartbreaking thought as we know how important our holidays are and what they mean to hundreds of families a year
"It also means all of the other support we provide has needed to be scaled back, mainly our free chemotherapy support packs that help during the intense treatment but also let’s our patients know, they aren’t alone, we are here for them. We were the first charity to provide these and feedback has been amazing so to now not be able to purchase the contents for them is awful."
"We are hoping to raise at least £20,000 to keep the 2 caravans open, anything else would go towards other requests we get, be it shopping, paying a bill, or in the run up to the school holidays, it tends to be for uniform help
"Our inbox and social media support will continue but for everything else, we hang by a thread."
