IT'S just over two weeks until runners will flock to Burnham-on-Sea and lace up their trainers to complete a 13.1 mile run.

Organised by the Burnham-on-Sea Harriers group, the half marathon race will start and finish at the BASC Sports Ground on Sunday October 8.

Competing in the event is a big deal, but as a spectator, things can be equally, if not more, stressful.

Friends and families of competitors are often left wondering where to park, what time to arrive, and many more questions.

Whichever you are, here is everything you need to know ahead of Burnham-on-Sea half marathon 2023.

Timings

First and foremost, the race will start at 10am sharp, although runners are advised to arrive early to prepare and also attend the runners briefing prior to the start.

Competitors must complete the entirety of the 13.1 miles within a three hour time frame.

After three hours, course marshals will withdraw from their post, and any remaining runners will become "pedestrians" and are expected to navigate their own way to the finish.

A vehicle will follow any runners at the back of the pack to ensure their safety.

At 2pm, the prize giving presentation will take place in the sports centre clubhouse.

Parking

Due to the race being based at BASC Sports Ground, "ample parking" will be available on site for competitors and spectators.

Parking marshals will direct cars to their spaces upon arrival.

The full address for the sports centre and car park is as follows: BASC Sportsground, Stoddens Road, Burnham-on-Sea, TA8 2DX.

Route

The course will be clearly signposted with arrow signs at every junction, as well as marshals on scene to advise and direct if necessary.

Mile markers will be made clear so that competitors can track their progress during the race.

A car will lead the race, displaying a race clock and relaying commentary back to the race headquarters.

Three water/aid stations will be present on the route, with more drinks and refreshments available at the finish.

Details of the route itself can be seen below via an interactive map of the course.

Runners must keep to the left-hand-side of the road during the race, as vehicles and pedestrians will be present on the route.
