OVER 1,000 Burnham-on-Sea residents are celebrating winning a substantial cash prize in the Postcode Lottery.
Those living in the TA8 2 postcode area benefitted from a share of over £3.2 million, as winners were announced on Friday September 29.
Four residents on St Michael's Road each landed £228,571 after their postcode TA8 2BQ was announced as the full winning postcode.
One 98-year-old resident purchased three tickets, meaning they took home the biggest prize of £685,713.
Bernard Bottling is now the Postcode Lottery's oldest ever winner - he fought for the Royal Marines at just 17 years old in World War Two.
“When we started the lottery, my wife and I said that if we ever won, we must share it with family," he said.
"Unfortunately, she’s not here anymore.
“My daughter will get the most because she has been fantastic.
"She took over from my wife when she died and looked after me every day.”
The 1,053 remaining players in the area received a minimum prize of £1,334 each, with those who bought extra tickets taking home as much as £6,670.
People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Jeff Brazier said, "It's been a cracking day at the seaside, handing out life-changing cheques to our biggest winners in the full winning postcode.
"I'm sure they'll be celebrating all weekend long!
"And it's amazing that over 1,050 people have each scooped a tidy four-figure sum - congratulations Burnham-on-Sea!"
