A NEW community clothing bank will open in Burnham-on-Sea this Thursday (October 5).

Co-founders Emily Beaven and Kim Chatwin hope the clothing bank will serve as a useful resource during the cost of living crisis.

They have so far been overwhelmed with donations from the local community, meaning the site in the Waffle Hub Cafe at the Methodist Church will be fully stocked and ready for the grand opening this week.

Reverend Steve Bennett will cut the ribbon to mark the grand occasion, and the town crier will be sending locals in their direction.

The bank will be open for collections and donations every Thursday from October 5 onwards.

Anyone hoping to get involved in the community-led project should get in contact via the Rescued Recycled Reused Burnham and Highbridge Community Clothing Bank Facebook page.

Emily explained that the clothing bank will be there to help "absolutely anyone" who needs clothes, and no vouchers are needed, making the process as stress-free as possible.

"If a young lad's got an interview and needs some smart clothes, he can come to us," she said.

"If a young mum has to choose which bill to pay each week and is struggling to get by, we want her to be able to come and pick out some new clothes."
