THE Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked with their first call out of 2024 on Saturday, January 20.

The team was asked to assist the ambulance services in dealing with a person on the beach who was "in need of medical treatment".

At 11:04am, the team met with the ambulance crew near to the Low Lighthouse, and set up the stretcher needed to carry the patient to the ambulance.

Coastguard Rescue Team members then safely carried the patient 600-metres off the beach to the awaiting ambulance.

Once the patient was safely inside, the crew packed the equipment away, and headed back to station to sanitise all the used equipment ready for the next call.

A spokesperson for Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard Rescue Team said: "A chilly start to the call out year but as always we're happy to help when needed.

"Don't forget, if you have any emergency along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
