CONVERTING a care home into a house of multiple occupation (HMO) on Berrow Road, Burnham-on-Sea is among the schemes people are trying to get planning permission for in Somerset.
Every week, hundreds of planning applications are submitted to Somerset Council for determination – and we have selected some of the most interesting proposals.
Almo Holdings Ltd. has applied to create a 37-bed HMO out of the former Hillview Nursing Home, which closed after being rated ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in October 2022.
The developer, which is based in Ipswich, will turn the facility into 37 studio flats with five communal kitchen and dining areas.
There will be ten bathrooms with showers installed across the ground and first floors, along with additional toilets.
A spokesman for Bell Campbell (representing the developer) said the building was “in a central and highly sustainable location, where there is extremely good access to public transport, services and employment opportunities.”
The sites lies within walking distance of the beach, the multi-uses games areas near the Crosses Pen tennis courts, the town’s sports and swim academy and the Tesco supermarket.
