B&B in Nether Stowey Bridgwater used for Hinkley Point staff

APW Planning Consultants (on behalf of Merrywood B&B in Nether Stowey) has requested full planning permission from Somerset Council to change the use of a single storey extension to 'holiday let accommodation/Hinkley workers accommodation.'

According to the planning statement submitted to the council, the owner of the bed and breakfast used part of the building to house Hinkley Point workers as he was under the impression that he had planning permission to provide holiday accomodation, and was 'not aware that providing a self-contained component would trigger a change of use.'

"Once our client was made aware, our services were engaged to prepare an application to regularise the use," added a spokesperson for APW Planning Consultants.

The statement details that the rest of the Merrywood building on Lime Street will continue to serve as a bed and breakfast, with only the single storey extension to be used for 'holiday makers and/or Hinkley Point workers' if permission is granted.

Inside the extension area are two apartments equipped with their own kitchens, bathrooms, and living space, as well as a shared bathroom separating the two.

In the planning statement, the applicant stated using the building as accomodation for Hinkley Point workers and/or holidaymakers is currently and would continue to be of benefit to the area, and the business.

"The proposed development will support and diversify the accommodation on offer, supporting the existing business and providing good quality accommodation for holidaymakers and workers at Hinkley Point," a spokesperson for APW Planning Consultants wrote.

"The proposal will also satisfy demand for existing workers at Hinkley Point, who need accommodation, and tourists to the area.

"There will be an economic spin off for existing services, facilities, and tourism sector through increased patronage and spending."
