Burnham-on-Sea RNLI lifeboat station and fundraising branch will take part in the next stage of the Connecting our Communities relay-style event.

On Sunday, April 21, volunteers at the station will sign the five-metre-long scroll, as part of celebrations to mark the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's (RNLI) 200th anniversary.

The scroll is passing through 240 RNLI communities, bearing a pledge penned in seven languages.

It reads: "Whoever we are, wherever we are from, we are one crew, ready to save lives."

Denise Gocher, Burnham's fundraising chair said: "Having the 200th Anniversary scroll visit Burnham on Sea is a huge honour for us, and one which demonstrates the hard work and dedication that all our volunteers bring to the RNLI."

Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News:

Anjie Rook, RNLI Associate Director, overseeing the anniversary celebrations, explained the importance of the event.

She said: "The Connecting our Communities relay is one of the most significant events of the RNLI’s 200th anniversary year as it’s all about our people."

The tour will conclude in October at Douglas on the Isle of Man, home to RNLI's founder, Sir William Hillary.

By that time, the document will carry an estimated 700 signatures.

The scroll will then be displayed at the RNLI College in Poole.
