A FORMER 'training centre' at a business park in Bridgwater has become the site of a kickboxing academy.
Plans submitted to Somerset Council by Mr M Drewett-Nation outline Somerset Kickboxing Academy's hopes to build a single storey extension at Unit 8B, on the Crypton Technology Business Park.
The club has relocated from its premises on Eastover, and is now seeking permission to officially change the use of the new building on Bristol Road.
In the planning application, Apex Planning Design Ltd - on behalf of the academy - said an extension was needed to compensate for the 'burgeoning' club.
"Somerset Kickboxing Academy began back in 2011 with one class a week at a local hall and then slowly increased over the years before moving into their first full-time centre in 2022 at Eastover," the applicant wrote.
"The potential facilities at the Crypton Business Park site will provide a better learning and exercise environment for trainers and students alike, with the proposed extension allowing the site to match that currently in use at Eastover, only in a more usable layout."
The proposed single storey extension to the building is situated on the southern elevation, enveloping the existing WC space and covering a floor area of 82 square metres.
The proposed extension would be constructed from faced brick with profile metal sheet to the roof, as well as uPVC windows and doors.
