THE newly elected MP for Bridgwater, Ashley Fox, has delivered his first speech in the House of Commons.

Mr Fox spoke about his new role and outlined his priorities for his constituency.

During the address, Mr Fox recounted the history of Bridgwater, touching upon the Battle of Sedgemoor and historic figures such as Admiral Robert Blake and Vernon Bartlett.

He placed these within a contemporary context, drawing parallels with the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

Commenting on the £23 million Town Deal funding, he said it would benefit various local initiatives, including the restoration of historic docks and refurbishment of cultural venues.

Mr Fox pledged to rebuild the Haygrove School after serious safety concerns were raised.

He also discussed preventive measures for flooding and advocated for the completion of the River Parrett barrage.

He dedicated his efforts to protecting the local environment, drawing attention to sites such as Pawlett Hams.
