EMERGENCY services responded to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles in Badgworth, which left one vehicle in three feet of water.

The incident took place at 5.10pm on Tuesday, August 6.

Fire crews from Burnham-on-Sea and Cheddar, as well as paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service, were on the scene.

A Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman explained: "Fire engines attended a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on the A38 Badgworth.

"On arrival the incident commander confirmed one vehicle was in the centre of the carriageway, the driver of this vehicle had already exited before the arrival of the fire service."

They confirmed the second vehicle was located in a ditch in approximately three feet of water.

The spokesperson continued: "Crews used a Tirfor winch to secure the vehicle and hydraulic rescue equipment to remove two of the vehicle doors to extricate the driver.

"Triple Extension Ladder and small tools were also used.

"Both drivers were left in the care of paramedics."
