PLANS have been submitted to Somerset Council for alterations to Bawdrip Service Station.

Sterling Petroleum Limited submitted plans this week seeking to install a new forecourt canopy and above ground diesel tank at the Merco premises. The site lies on the north side of the A39 Bath Road and is approximately 1004 square metres in size.

An increased canopy height at Bawdrip Service Station is sought to stop the current canopy from being struck by vehicles and causing "significant health and safety issues". In addition, the planning statement submitted by Jaygar Architectural Design also observes that: “Currently if a high sided vehicle enters the site at the junction of A39/B3141 it cannot pass below the canopy and then has to reverse in order to exit the site.”

The submitted proposals also include a new 35,000 litre above ground tank, split with 30,000 litres of diesel, and 5,000 litres of super diesel. The tank would be placed behind security fencing. Outline planning permission for the original construction of the service station was granted in 1990.
