With a good number of members away on the Captains Away weekend and a poor weather forecast is was decided to combine the Saturday and Sunday competitions to make one overall event.

The winners all came from the first day of action when the weather was much more favourable although all the Sunday scores were certainly very respectable too.

The winning trio was made up of Dave Jolly, David Hunter and Dan Harper with their score of nett 58. It was matched by Paul Bacon along with Gareth and Emma Davies but they had to settle for second after a back nine countback.

Third and fourth also required the same computer treatment with 3 scores of 59 to separate. Mark Elvins, Nigel Ellis and Rob perry were placed third ahead of the fourth placed Jerry Brueford, Roy Fletcher and Steve Eley team with Barry Roe, Trevor Pitt and Mike Mullin just missing out in 5th.

Brean Golf Club was well represented in the upper echelons of the final leaderboard at the West Region PGA Benevolent Pro Am on Friday at Mendip Spring.

Brean's PGA Professional Andrew March also serves as the Chairman of the Regional PGA and has always supported this event which raises money for PGA Professionals who fall on difficult times.

This year, through the Super Series prize system, three teams of amateurs represented the club in the 36 team event. March enlisted the help of his fellow Professionals in Scott Bellinger from Cannington and Roy Baker from Worlebury to join the other two team alongside himself.

Last year one of the Brean teams finished as runners up, but this year Brian Read, Tony McCann and Martin Kennelly joined forces with Bellinger to record a win for Brean.

They completed the Scramble round with a superb nett score of 18 under par to win by one. Two teams led by Exeter Pro's filled the second and third spots and another Devon based Pro Devon Greenslade took fourth on countback beating March's team of Murray Parsons, Tony Richards and Andy Jones into 5th. Steve and Zak Jones along with Simon Baunton and Professional Roy Baker ended back in 22nd spot but were only 3 strokes behind March's score.
