A TORNADO warning has been released for all of the south west this evening up until the early hours of tomorrow morning.
The website Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (TORRO) is forecasting 'isolated tornadoes' from 1pm today (October 6) to 12 am tomorrow.
It's also reported that we should expect gusty winds up to 50MPH as well as hail and occasional CG lightning.
A suspected tornado struck the Sidmouth area on January 1 of this year, causing damage to a 150-year old Oak Tree and damaged telegraph poles.
Speaking about today's forecast tornado, a spokesperson for TORRO said: "A shortwave trough will move ENE this afternoon/evening, accompanied by areas of showery rain, some convective in nature.
"One or more small-scale circulations (mesolows) may evolve, although model guidance differs somewhat on the exact morphology.
"Gusty winds, hail (perhaps up to 1cm diameter), and occasional CG lightning may accompany the stronger cores.
"Additionally, isolated tornadoes are possible, especially if any mesolows form. Any such mesolows would produce a more focussed risk corridor for gusty winds and occasional tornadoes."
