THE return of this year’s Burnham-on-Sea Carnival will take place on Monday, November 4 from 7.30pm. We take a look at what to expect in 2024 and how to make the most of one of the most illuminating events of the year.
Grand Fireworks Display on Sunday, November 3
Even before the carnival carts roll along the seafront, there’s one event you will not want to miss. The Burnham-on-Sea fireworks display takes place on Sunday, 3 November, one day prior to the carnival procession.
This year, the Grand Fireworks Display starts at 6.30pm by the jetty, will be fired by Skyburst, the winners of The British Firework Championships 2023, to a musical accompaniment.
The event, which is completely free for everyone, is generously funded by Burnham-on-Sea & Highbridge Town Council with support from local businesses.
Carnival Procession route on Monday, November 4
Alike other years, the Procession will begin at the Tesco roundabout and will proceed along Love Lane. From there, crowds will see illuminated carts travel along Manor Road, Victoria Street, and High Street, before terminating along Marine Drive.
Where can I park?
There are a range of car parks in the town, including Pier Street Car Park and Oxford Street Car Park. Some streets near the Esplanade also offer parking.
As with all carnivals across the county, the advice is to arrive early to avoid road closures and ensure plenty of time to get to a good viewing position.
Road closures
From 4pm to 1am, road closures will affect parts of, if not all of: Burnham Road, Highbridge Road, Ben Travers Way, Frank Foley Parkway, Berrow Road, Church Street, Love Lane, Hawley Way, Love Lane, and Marine Drive.
A number of streets within the town will also be closed, including High Street, Pier Street, Regent Street, South Street, Victoria Street, Adam Street, Chapel Street, Vicarage Street, College Street, and Cross Street.
Where can I get a carnival programme?
Carnival programmes for Burnham-on-Sea are an excellent document, providing you with all the information you will need on the night. To purchase one in advance, visit Burnham Tourist Information, Toycupboard, Books and Puzzles, or the Iron Duke. You can also purchase carnival programmes on the night.
