Burnham-on-Sea RNLI Lifeboat Station is on the hunt for a new volunteer chair.
The chair will head up the station’s Lifeboat Management Group, ensuring smooth communication and cooperation between the RNLI and local communities.
They will also be tasked with providing local leadership, coordinating station activities, and developing relationships within the community.
Not just that, but they will also be the main contact for non-operational RNLI matters and will be responsible for ensuring all station functions are coordinated.
The role also involves holding regular meetings with the Lifeboat Management Group, discussing local RNLI matters, and planning actions for specific items.
The Burnham-on-Sea Lifeboat Station, which was established in 1836 and operates two inshore lifeboats, is run by volunteers.
The team includes lifeboat operations managers, deputy launching authorities, and a shore crew team.
All crew members, both boat and shore, follow the RNLI’s national competency-based training scheme and respond to pager alerts when a request is made to launch the lifeboats.
Additionally, the wider team consists of volunteer fundraisers, shop volunteers, and water safety volunteers.
The successful candidate will be expected to foster cooperation among all supporting teams and ensure that all RNLI volunteers and staff are informed of the appropriate output from meetings.
They will also need to make sure all team leaders are aware of policy matters communicated from the RNLI Support Centre in Poole.
Regular meetings with the Area Lifesaving Manager to discuss management matters of the RNLI locally will also be part of the role.
The station is located on the Somerset coast, with the current station opening its doors in 2003.
