A MOTORCYCLIST from Somerset has sustained serious head injuries in a crash.
The collision with a car took place in Dorset at lunchtime yesterday (Monday, August 30).
An air ambulance attended the incident on the A3066 between Melplash and Bridport at around 12.55pm.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which involved an orange Kawasaki motorcycle and an orange and black Renault Captur.
Crews of firefighters from Bridport and Beaminster fire stations attended the scene along with police and paramedics.
Police say the rider of the motorcycle, a man aged in his 30s and from Somerset, sustained serious head injuries and was taken to Southmead Hospital, Bristol, for treatment.
His condition was described as serious, but not life-threatening.
The driver of the Renault and his wife, who are both from Dorset and aged in their 70s, were taken to hospital as a precaution.
The road was closed between Townsend Way and near to The Mount. It was reopened at 4.30pm.
Police Sergeant Lee Savage, of the Dorset Police traffic unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was travelling along Bridport Road at the time of the collision and either witnessed the incident, or the manner of driving of the vehicles involved prior to it, to please come forward.
“I would also ask that anyone who was driving in the area and has dashcam fitted to their vehicle please checks their footage for anything of relevance.”
A spokesman for Beaminster Fire Station said: "We were called to a road traffic collision between a car and a motorcycle.
"Crews made the scene safe and worked alongside the police, ambulance and critical air ambulance crews with casualty care."
