A WORKER at Hinkley Point C sustained a serious leg injury after a heavy panel dropped on him on the site at the weekend.
A colleague said a 'wall' crushed one of his legs.
The fellow worker added that the victim is still in hospital following the incident on Saturday (August 20) and may have to have his leg amputated, although the County Gazette has been unable to confirm this.
He was treated at the scene by a paramedic team and then taken to hospital for further treatment.
The colleague said: "The wall came away and landed on top of him.
"A steel frame box with legs fell onto his leg, but that probably saved him from being crushed to death.
"All the same, he was in agony and they're now trying to save his leg in hospital."
A spokesperson for Hinkley Point C confirmed that a reinforcement panel fell on a member of the workforce, resulting in a leg injury.
He said on-site paramedics were on the scene within three minutes and the victim was taken to hospital after receiving attention in the on-site medical centre.
The spokesperson added: "The safety of our workforce is of paramount importance, and, alongside our contractor and trades unions partners, we will continue to reinforce and improve our already strong safety record.
"An investigation into the incident is underway and we will ensure that the findings are used to protect the people who work here."
