Somerset County League Div Two West: Berrow 3, Wrington-Redhill 0

Berrow registered another resounding victory against in-form opposition at Red Road Saturday. They handed starts to Ant Organ and Pete Harris, who had performed well off the bench the previous week, but they were without captain Wayne Barrett and player-manager Neil Punt, who were both away.

Captain-for-the-day Ben Pugh-Jones elected to play into the wind in the first half and Berrow gave a lethargic display up to the interval, apparently content to play out a goalless half.

The tactic almost backfired, when Wrington should have taken the lead following some slack defending. The ball ending up at the feet of a visiting attacker and his powerful shot was well saved by Chris Warner. This was the only real action of the half, as Berrow's backline of Organ, Steve Warren and Simon Dawes were well on top.

Half time brought a call for more urgency from Berrow and they responded by putting on an excellent second-half performance. Immediately, they settled into the sort of rhythm that had seen them win so well the previous week.

After only 15 minutes, Jamie Reddish slipped Simon Baunton expertly through on goal. He scored with a finish that only he could manage, seemingly having all the time in the world to beat the last defender and the keeper and slot the ball between two players on the line.

Wrington tried to hit back immediately and had the ball in the back of the net, but the goal was chalked off for a foul on Warner. Berrow went in search of a second goal, with Baunton twice going close from Pugh-Jones deliveries.

They extended their lead when Pugh-Jones fed Baunton for his second. It looked as though the keeper had taken the ball off the prolific front man, but he managed to regain possession and roll the ball into an empty net.

Wrington threw on a third striker, which left holes for Berrow counter-attacks, and with only a few minutes left, Berrow and Baunton got their third. Wrington only half-cleared from a quick counter-attack and substitute Ian Walsh put over a perfect cross for Baunton to nod home his fifth goal in two games.

Team: Warner, Warren, Organ, Dawes, Harris, Shepherd, Williams, Pugh-Jones, Reddish, Robins, Baunton. Subs: Bassi, Walsh.
